Mrs. Dofka has retired from active teaching but maintains life membership in the Iota Lambda Sigma, professional vocational teaching fraternity, DANB dental assisting certification, and maintains retired status as dental hygienist in West Virginia. She is currently serving in consultation practice and advisory board capacity as well as volunteer activities.

Dawn is a graphic design artist and scientific illustrator trained at the Art Institutes of Colorado and Fort Lauderdale. Her art and design are prominent in natural history books, posters, and museum exhibits. Blair and Dawn have merged their art, writing, photography, and design in a number of projects, including Florida's Living Beaches: A Beachcomber's Guide, Florida's Seashells, Living Beaches of Georgia and the Carolinas: A Beachcomber's Guide, and Seashells of Georgia and the Carolinas: A Beachcomber's Guide.

"ABOVE EXPECTATIONS"

I love this book. I carry it around like a three year old with a favorite blanket. I have been searching for a book like this that is not too big and bulky. When on turtle patrol from May to October, I have a number of items that I carry in my rucksack, therefore I was definitely not looking for a coffee table book. I was looking for illustrations of predator trackings and a list of behaviors that these predators leave behind but most of all a more in depth study of the sea turtles themselves. I believe that the more educated that I can become, the more that I can help protect these beautiful creatures. We do not want the next few generations to have to refer to history books that by far would never compete with the joy, wonderment and total surreal experience of seeing them come up out of the sea to lay their eggs or a frenzy of a hundred tiny turtle tots making their way to the sea. This book does just what it was intended to do. The graphics and detail are well above my expectations compared to others that I have purchased in the past. If your looking for a more in depth book with easy, clear education that you can understand without having a PhD in Marine Biology this book is perfect.

The one star is NOT for the content which is amazing, but A.P's printing job. It was no better than I could have done with an almost dry ink roller and cheap paper . It was THE worst printing job EVER, with light spots and lines. I was SOOO upset because the one I borrowed at the library is beautiful with glossy paper and great photos. So, if you want this book, MAKE SURE IT'S ON GLOSSY PAPER and get it USED. I would have paid maybe $10 for the copy I got, NOT $90.

I regret that I have but five stars to give

As a physical/biological Anthropology grad student, this book is tantamount to a bible for me. The pictures are gorgeous, and the text leaves nothing to be desired. As a bonus, can be used to incapacitate any intruders that interupt frantic, late night studying. A great book that goes well with Tim D. White's "Human Bone Manual", which offers a portable and more "bare bones" version to save any injury to your vertebrae while carrying it to class. A great book and must have for physical anthropologists.

Karl Goodkin, M.D., Ph.D., is in the Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Neurology and Psychology at the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Florida. He also works at the Helen Dowling Institute for Biopsychosocial Medicine, Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.

The book by Karl Goodkin and Adriaan Visser is excellent joint venture provided by the researches from Europe and USA. It not very easy book but for the people wanted enrich the knowledge about should find it positive. Each chapter talks about possible impact of PNI on the one field of medicine. Stress, oncology, AIDS are the main topics in this book. Every chapter has a rich references section so everybody who wants to "dig in" deeper in the particular field has good starting point. I recommend this book for the physiscians, psychologists, immunologists and people working on the frontier of the PNI - it very good update.

The "Atlas" is a fascinating move of Cesar A. Hidalgo, Ricardo Hausmann and others to make people understand the engines behind trade and production. Clarissa is a transgender teen who has been raised as a boy named Clark. [For the sake of consistency and simplicity, I am choosing to refer to Clarissa by her chosen name and preferred gender, regardless of her gender presentation.] Clarissa is constantly teased at school, often violently so, and is misunderstood by her mother, her brother, even her therapist. After some unfortunate incidents involving the father of a family for whom Clarissa babysits, Clarissa decides to run away to Bangkok where she hires a doctor and receives the SRS (sex reassignment surgery) that she has been dreaming of.

This story has a lot of interesting aspects - the computer hacking Clarissa does, for example. It also seems to me that Clarissa has to deal with a larger portion of problems than a typical teen - even a typical transgender teen - does. The man for whom she is babysitting seduces her and nearly rapes her (making her the fourth in a line of teens who were assaulted by this man). Once she runs away, the FBI and the State Department come after her. There's a subplot where Tony, her almost-rapist, is accused of insider trading.

This was a difficult story to read. I didn't want Clarissa to have to face SRS alone, much less in a country halfway around the world. I wanted the school bullies to learn not to tease. I wanted everything to end happily ever after. Even though it didn't, the story itself was very satisfying to read.

I have only one caveat: The author of this story self-published her work, so the book did not go through the normal round of edits that comes from a major publisher. English gurus and grammar nazis will be bothered by misuses of set/sat, then/than, apostrophes, commas, etc. The errors are not so extreme that they caused me to put the book down, but they were a distracting annoyance in what was otherwise a very interesting story.

Fascinating - Definitely worth a read

A really interesting story of a transgender teen computer geek (hacker actually) who uses their smarts to escape bullying and a sexual predator. Definitely something different. It kept my interest and I finished it in a day and a half.

It could use some more polishing (spotted a couple of types and parts are a little jumpy...possibly fixable by using scene breaks so the reader knows to expect a change) but if you can look past that part, it's definitely worth a read.

I enjoyed the story, but all of the typos and grammatical errors were annoying and distracting. It really took away from my enjoyment of the book. I was able to easily spot a mistake on just about every single page. Since the author says this took her two years (and six drafts) to write, it seems like she should have had plenty of time to have it proofread and edited.

A real 1893 Catalog of great doors, staircases, & Trim

This is apparently a reprint of one of the really great old catalogs of Victorian Millwork! It has fabulous designs for window ornamentation, verandas, brackets, gable ends, fireplace mantels and most especially doors. Black & White sketches show an impressive variety of ideas.

good reference guide

This is a good reference to the time period. This is not a "how to" book but rather a period catalog expertly reproduced. This book is good for someone who is interested in creating a home with elements from the late Victorian era.

I'm a nerd for antique millwork so I LOVE this book

I'm a nerd for antique millwork so I LOVE this book. It's from 1893, and predictably the products it depicts are heavy on Victorian frills. Craftsman is more my taste, so I'd love it if they'd release something similar from the 1910's. Still really awesome seeing the old molding profiles, sash construction, what sorts of glass was available, etc.
