Davide Lanzoni has written an excellent book for both those without previous knowledge and for the skilled with already previous experience on the use of thermography in Building diagnostics.
Besides covering the basic Infrared theory and displaying many images of common building applications like heat losses, moisture, water infiltration, thermal bypass and air leakages the book also deals with other complementary techniques such as Blower Door testing and Heat Flux measurement, techniques that add value to a regular Thermographic inspection.
The book also contains many references to pertinent standards that can help the user of thermographic equipment to understand and evaluate the gravity of the findings.
I recommend the book for self-studies or as a support for Building Applications training. It will make possible to obtain a better use of the many thermal imagers sold today, often with the idea that thermography “is just to take Infrared images”. Thermography is much more, probably the best, quickest and most efficient technique to find construction defects that affect comfort and energy use in Buildings.

I follow many homeschooling pages and groups on Facebook. Each day I see parents who are frustrated and ready to discontinue homeschooling. They either have kids with learning challenges, children who are acting out and uncooperative following stressful school experiences, or they are overwhelmed with balancing homeschooling, childcare, and work inside and outside the home. Many parents are encouraged when I recommend the Homeschool Journals and other products published by this company.

A superb 200-page introduction to numerical analysis

This is an excellent elementary introduction to numerical analysis, only basic math is required. It is fun and easy to read. This is a "small" book; the largest section (linear equations) being 66 pages. However, it does cover a lot of ground.
Code fragments are in C and FORTRAN. The C code obviously hasn't been tested (abs() instead of fabs() throughout). There are many typos in the text as well as in the code fragments.

Nice slim introduction to numeric analysis

This is a pleasure to read, introducing concepts of floating-point computation, backward error analysis, basic linear algebra and root finding algorithms in very little space. The book uses concrete examples to point out pitfalls, and makes the distinction between bad algorithms and bad problems very clear. As noted in another review, it has some misprints; here is a list of those I noticed:

Page 32 line 7 (item 4.14): The equation should read
\sigma_k = \rho_k - (p-1)\sigma_{k-1}

Page 32 line 12 (item 4.14): The equation should read
(\sigma_k - \sigma_*) = (\rho_k - \rho_*) - (p-1)(\sigma_{k-1} - \sigma_*)

Page 84 (item 11.6): Missing equals sign "=" between the two rightmost
displayed matrices.

Page 104 (item 14.2): The entry -1.997 in the M_2 matrix should be +1.997.

Page 115 line -5 (item 15.9): The error in y is 2*10^{-4} not
3*10^{-4}.

Page 122 (item 16.10): The A matrix entry [1,2] should be 2.000 not
4.000.

Pulls You In

With this book, Laymon went into my head as a new author to look out for. I LOVE the concept, exiting your own body and going along for the ride in others. The drama/mystery/love triangle was also a lot of fun and written well. Where it fell short, however, was in the wish fullfillment for me. I really would have loved more body rides in the beginning of the book, or, at the very least, the main character going into his gf's head! But it fell short there. Still, a must read! Very original and different!

Long ride for short concept.

Neal Darden only wanted to avoid getting into trouble by staying off the main road as he crossed town to return the videos he and his girlfriend had just watched. Then he hears a woman scream for help, and the nightmare begins. Grabbing the gun he keeps concealed in his car, Neal runs to the rescue, shooting the assailant. But he and the potential victim fail to check the body to see if the attacker is, in fact, actually dead. In gratitude for saving her life, the woman gives Neal a special bracelet that allows the person wearing it to slip into another person's body and mind. Then things go bad. The attacker is still alive and, after Neal has left, he finishes his job and starts coming after Neal.
Believe me, the book sounds better than it reads. Laymon, as he does in most of his books, has the story run in 'real time' and it bogs down in the middle with a plot twist that seems to exist just to add kinky sex to the mix of the story. Even worse, the characters act in the best interest of advancing the plot, not in exploring realistic human behavior in unrealistic circumstances. Laymon fans will enjoy it, but readers new to the late author will wonder what the loyal following is all about.

Long ride for the concept.

Neal Darden just wanted to avoid trouble and get his video rentals back to the store on time. But his short cut turns out to be a direct path to terror. Hearing a woman's scream for help, Darden grabs his concealed weapon and charges to the rescue, blasting the twisted assailant away with the aforementioned gun. The rescued damsel is very, very grateful, but reluctant to call the cops. Instead Neal takes her home and, after getting cleaned up, she bestows upon him a gift. A bracelet that allows the person wearing it to enter into the body and mind of others, without their knowing it. Then things go crazy. The attacker isn't dead, nor is he finished, and, as far as Neal goes, anything that can go wrong, does. Body Rides is filled with the kinky sex (not to mention Laymon's almost festishistic fascination with voyeurism), brutal violence and black comedy that the late, great writer was famous (or infamous, depending on who you talk with) for, but it also drags with unneeded detail which robs the middle part of suspense. Some of the characters also behave in a way that is great for the plot, but just doesn't jibe with human nature. At least with the nature of the humans I have known. But when the novel cooks, it is a fun ride.

The author presents the material in a way that is very easy for anyone to understand, even those who are complete beginners to foreign policy analysis. The case studies also add to the ideas and models that are presented in the book and make it even more interesting and easy to understand. I recommend this book as a textbook and also for anyone interested in reading it just for pleasure and the knowledge it contains.

Excellent introduction to foreign policy

Very well written, with plenty of case studies and clever analysis. It gives a very comprehensive overview of the dynamics and key elements how foreign policy is defined. I regretted coming to its end.
